Functional Neurology

In addition to receiving extensive post-graduate training in functional medicine, Dr. Beyer has also gone through 165 hours of functional neurology training with the prestigious Carrick Institute.  Functional Neurology is an exciting  area of alternative health care that allows a practitioner trained in it to detect and correct subtle but significant areas of neurologic dysfunction. These subtle areas of dysfunction, often referred to as being “fatigued” as opposed to diseased,  can be a definite contributor to many chronic health problem. In addition to helping facilitate the Functional medicine approach for the metabolic conditions we treat, functional neurology can help with the following issues:
  - Dizziness/Vertigo
  - ”Brain Fog”
  - ADHD
  - Sleep Problems
  - Depression/ Anxiety
…  And many other neurologically based issues.
So while the traditional/conventional approach to the nervous system tends to look at things in a black and white way, with one side being perfect/optimal function and the other side being diseases like tumors, strokes, etc. In functional neurology,  very much like with functional medicine, there is a recognition that there can be different “shades of gray” in terms of function, with subtle changes (“fatigued” areas) causing significant negative consequences given the brain’s importance.
Fortunately these fatigued areas of the brain can be detected with a functional evaluation of the nervous system. And even more, fortunately these “fatigued” areas can be treated as shown below :
